Around Kargi Bay in Turkey is an ecologically and environmentally protected area that remains a tranquil haven to escape from the bustle of life and absorb nature.
--- Nestled in a delightful woodland setting close to the small hamlet of Kargi is the Tropicana development of 17 luxury villas, easily accessible by boat and well served by public transport. Tropicana Villas has been designed to ensure an optimum of vistas and tranquillity. All villas have their own private pools and come with three bedrooms, two ensuite and an additional bathroom.
Fragrant gunluk trees surround the Tropicana Villas project, ensuring the continued protection of the surrounding countryside and enhancing the beauty of the development itself. The balsamic smelling resin of the gunluk tree is collected between March and September every year and has been used for more than 700 years as an all purpose drug, in particular as an effective cure for stomach ulcers.
Moving out of the woods and towards the beautiful coastline, just a 400m walk from Tropicana Villas brings you to the famous Caretta Beach. A bit further along the coast is the popular resort of Calis, one of the 17 Mediterranean nesting areas for the Loggerhead Sea Turtle. Visitors can witness the females coming ashore to lay their eggs in the sand through June and July and then watch the hatchlings leave in September. Calis has won a blue flag for its environmental protection of the species and is well known for its seemingly endless kilometres of beach. It is also a sensational place to watch the sunset.
Kargi is in the Black Sea region of Turkey and features one of the best sandy beaches along the Bodrum peninsula, with a less crowded feel, excellent swimming and, unusually, just a couple of traditional tavernas scattered along the seafront. Something to be sampled when eating out is tulum peyniri, a particular type of crumbly goat's milk cheese produced in the area along with high quality rice and okra. It is also well known for its family of camels offering rides up and down the beach.
The harbour is a great place for water sports and in particular diving. Just out from the beautifully sheltered bay is the wreck of a cabin cruiser. Suitable for even novice dives, there is a wealth of sea creatures to spot in the clear turquoise waters including scorpion fish, moray eels and small sponges.
Ideally placed for boat trips to other areas around the peninsula, Kargi has an excellent local bus service which takes you to the local market town of Fethiye, perfect for a shopping trip to stock up on supplies. Dalaman International airport is 40 minutes drive away.
The Tropicana Villas development offers the chance to be in the midst of nature and to a plethora of well preserved archaeolgical sites, exciting museums, and other scenic and recreational attractions for which Turkey is so well known.
Property in Turkey is still relatively inexpensive, and prices here at Tropicana Villas in Kargi start from £138,600 for a three bedroom detached villa.
