The yachting port boasts the ruins of the original Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, once named as one of the seven wonders of the world. The Castle of St Peter, also called Bodrum Castle, looms over the town and is a fascinating attraction. Once a Crusader fortress, it now houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, exhibiting collections of ancient artefacts including relics from local shipwrecks. A massive antique amphitheatre is used for concerts and, offering panoramic views of the castle and the sea, is used often for other spectacles.

Ideally located to explore the whole peninsula, Bodrum is well served with buses and roads with regular intercity routes to Istanbul. It is also a good base for boat trips along the Aegean coast. The Temple of Artemis can be found at Epheus, a few miles north, and 30 minutes by road is the traditional fishing town of Gulluk with its spectacular bay.

Gulluk is well known as a fishing paradise and it is here that the some of the best fish restaurants can be found. Located in a now protected bay, Gulluk offers tranquillity, beautiful surrounding countryside and the most spectacular sunsets. Gulluk is an exciting new holiday destination and one of the many attrtactions along the Bodrum Peninsula.
